Ephesians 6

Back in Galatians we talked about paying attention to the presence of God in our lives. Today we're also going to talk about paying attention—to something else.

In verse 12 Paul says, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood," "but against the spiritual forces of evil." These forces are so powerful that we must put on "armor" to protect ourselves. This consists of seven pieces of armor, and I would really encourage you to read through the list and think about why we need each one.

But here we will focus our attention on verse 18. We are to put on the armor, "praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance." The armor is essential for us to defend ourselves, but the armor is useless unless we are alert. We must also be paying attention in order for the armor to be effective. So...

How well are you paying attention to the attacks of the enemy in your life? Are you on the alert? Or are you unaware until you are under attack?

I'm going to challenge you to begin making it a daily practice of putting on the armor of God every morning. And in addition to paying attention to the presence of God in your life, begin building a sensitivity to the enemy's attacks so that you are prepared to defend yourself.
