One of the most well-known verses in Paul's writings is verse 21 of this chapter: "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." You may know this verse well, but you may have never stopped to grasp the weight of what Paul is saying.
See Paul sought to imitate Christ, because he knew that the closer he was to Christ—the more "present" he was with Christ—the more fruit his life would produce, and the more honored Christ would be.
But Paul says death is far better! We are followers of Christ—the worst thing that can happent to us, is the best thing that can happen to us! We die, and go to be with Jesus!
But until we die, we're here. And while we're still here we want our lives to bring honor to Christ, and work for the progress and joy in the faith of those around us.
So how do we live that way? A life lived that way is driven by a passionate desire for Christ. Do you desire Christ so much that it would be better for you to sacrifice your life, and everything in it, in order to be with him?
