The first verse of chapter 7 essentially explains God's will for the life of every Christian: "Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God." 1 Thessalonians 4:3 says it even more succinctly: "For this is the will of God: your sanctification." God's will for our lives is to become holy; he wants us to be more and more like his son Jesus, who is perfect.
Nowadays many Christians will tell you that you need to find the direction God has for your life—as if God has a specific job for you to hold, and a specific place he wants you to live, and a specific person whom he wants you to marry. Friends, I'm here to tell you that is simply not the case. God is not a sneaky God—he doesn't have some elaborate plan for your life, which he is hiding from you, that you have to try to figure out beforehand so you can be in the "center" of his will.
Now he does have a plan for your life, but you'll find it in the verses above. He wants you to find the most joy and satisfaction in doing what gives him the most glory. As you get closer to Christ and grow in holiness, the decisions you make will bring him more and more glory. You can have whatever job you want (provided it's not sin), and you can marry whomever you want (provided they are a believer), and you can live wherever you want as well. You see, if your life's purpose is loving God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, then the choices you make will be pleasing to him.
